The Iowa Theater was our first true destination visit.  We travelled to Iowa to photograph the theater before they opened for the day, then returned that evening for a nighttime marquee shoot and to catch a movie and experience everything the theater has to offer.

The first thing we notices was the beautiful, compact auditorium.  While smaller than some auditoriums, with the original vaudeville mouldings in place, it was a perfect venue.  The staff had a true connection to the town and felt immense pride in the theater.  The patrons obviously had a deep love for the theater as well.

All in all, a great theater to enjoy a night at the movies.  If you visit, do yourself a favor and enjoy everything that Winterset has to offer.  You'll be glad you did.

America's Classic Cinemas continues to travel across the county, collecting photos and memories of these places that have provided entertainment to so many people.  It is important to give these places an online presence in order to share them with both those who have fond memories, and those whom have never had the opportunity to visit them.  All images are the property of David Leonhardt  unless noted and cannot be used without permission.
