3508 WEST BROADWAY, ROBBINSDALE MN
OPENED: MAY 23, 1951
CLOSED: FEBRUARY 1999
ARCHITECT: LIEBENBERG AND KAPLAN
The Terrace opened in May 1951 to national acclaim, with theater designers coming from across the county to view this cinema masterpiece. Unfortunately, over the course of the years, the theater was allowed to deteriorate. The large 1299 seat auditorium was tri-plexed in 1989. In the end, the Terrace closed in early 1999. While there was a grassroots movement trying to save the theater, it was demolished in Fall 2016.
The Terrace is where Alysia and I met while working together. It was this theater which caused us to create America's Classic Cinemas. At the time, there were only a couple of interior photos that were available to the public. Over the years, we have acquired quite a few photos, showing the theater through the years. The Terrace is a cautionary tale - Continue to support your local classic cinemas!
